I received homemade cards from my kids, My 15 yr old made me waffles. My oldest made me lunch. I got some very thoughtful gifts from my boys and wife. My wife made me a awesome steak dinner. It was a great day....
EDIT: oh but still didn't get any affection.

One aspect of Father's Day was a bust for me. My son's came over after lunch, both on bikes to have father-son ride. Wouldn't you know it, my bike would not start. I hadn't ridden in a couple weeks and the last time I started the bike the battery seemed weak. Looks like a dead cell probably. So the ride was a bust. I hooked up a battery charger and tried charging it for about 30 hours. Still nothing. So I guess I will be buying a new battery this week.

I have a 10 year old car that was on a battery maintainer most of the time and the battery works as well as when it when new. I have a friend with several vehicles and and each vehicle is on a battery maintainers. Yes OCD but he used to replace vehicle batteries every 3 years. Now with the maintainers the battery to fail the soonest was 8 years old.
It was too bad you didn't get in a ride. Bicycles would have been an alternative.

Sorry Handy, wrong diagnosis…...I generally keep my ride on a battery tender, and I definitely hook it up if I have an extended no ride period. I believe this battery is the original in my 2012 switchback, making it probably 8yrs. old. 8yrs. is a descent span for a motorcycle battery. As for the bicycle, I doubt seriously I could have kept up with my sons on their motorcycles, even if they coasted most of the time. |

Sorry, but I do not see it as a wife's/significant other's role to do or provide anything on Father's Day. Well, maybe remind the kids. My son bought me two bottles of beer and a bar of chocolate, plus a card. That was more than fine. He laid on a platter of food for lunch and afterwards we played games. My dad has been dead 20 years so nothing to do there. (his grave is 200 miles away which I tidy when I am up that way.

worksforme2, 8 years is a decent battery life. I know people that do not use a battery maintainer and their motorcycle battery last a little over a year. The battery supplier (Interstate Battery Co) has a 6 month warranty.
The battery maintainer suggestion wasn't just for you but for everyone reading this forum. I use one on my riding lawn mower over the winter. The maintainers work on any lead-acid, GMA battery.
I wasn't suggesting that YOU ride a bicycle but you BOTH ride bicycles.

I wished everyone a Happy Father's Day on FB including my ex. It was my son's first Father's Day and he had to work so I babysat. My dad passed away years ago.
Besides watching my grandson I held my breath hoping my boyfriend's son would try to have lunch or something with him since he was in town for the weekend. But he didn't . My bf even offered to meet him before he went back to college but apparently it was too inconvenient. I felt bad for him though he said it wasn't a big deal he didn't even call he texted Happy Father's Day. I think his son has some bitterness about the divorce. His daughter called. I tried to make him dinner but he said he's not my Father and he likes to cook.

Wife claims she said "Happy Father's Day", but I didn't remember or notice it. Umm, okay. It actually wasn't that bad a day, though I did end up spending part of it on yard work and it gave me flashbacks to last year (which was a day when I felt really awful, and what made me join this forum in the first place).

Being in "oppositland" and having my 6 grown kids alienated from me is something I prefer not to think much about , on this day. ( it is what it is, and the door is open for change, if they ever decide to act) Instead I'm alienating myself today, and reading a book, better than being around places with fathers and their children. Just another Sunday.
I heard some funny DJ's the other day saying " Fathers Day is just Mothers Day part II!
What does dad want for Fathers Day?
Dad " Oh I don't know, maybe go fishin'? Maybe cut some holes in some wood?
The mother :" Oh NO dear! I've made reservations for the whole family to have dinner with my daddy, and you're coming along, the whole family will be there!!""Then we're going shopping and get you some new shoes!!"

I look forward to hearing that one of the kids has broken the ice. Here's hoping that's all it takes to get four or five to make the best of the present and future. I was asked to repeat last year's setup of a Zoom call with my father-in-law and his terrific, but germophobic wife. He's a real good guy who's treated me well, so I was glad to oblige. When my marriage was on thin ice, losing her family was going to be one of the biggest drawbacks to refusing celibacy, if my wife had called Time of Death on us.. My daughter gave me a card from her and my deceased daughter. God almighty I love that kid. Nice breakfast with the Mrs., dinner with both wife and daughter. Amusement park visit with daughter included two half hour sets listening to a 70's rock band with a steel drum performer. I've always enjoyed steel drum so that was a remarkable stroke of luck. No nookie. Holidays don't factor in. |
