I just listened to a meditation by Sarah Blondin called ‘Healing through Letting Go” and I wanted to send as an attachment but couldn’t figure it out, but you can find her easily. She’s one of the meditators on a free app called Insight Timer and I think it’s really healing. I wanted to share - she has many great meditations.

warmways I just wanted to thank you for posting this. I’ve been listening to Sarah Blondin’s meditations off and on since you posted this and feel like I’m getting something positive out of it as I work on myself. I did download Insight Timer to listen and was happy to see there are a TON of other meditations too. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing the app, choosinghappy. Looks interesting at first glance, though I am assuming there is a nice setting I can click to NOT show others who I am or where I am meditating. lol I will look for that. Tons of meditations, though. I have been "talking about meditating" a lot lately, but I need to actually start practicing it.... ha

I think you will get a lot out of the app! Based on what I know about you I think you will be able to find some great stuff that is right up your alley. (I'm actually shocked to learn you don't practice meditation! I think you'll love it.)

(I'm actually shocked to learn you don't practice meditation! I think you'll love it.) I have done formal meditation, but kinda slipped in the last two years. I do count hiking as a "mindful activity" and do that weekly, though. I don't have music or anything, just walk in the woods. I tend to like "moving meditations" (just being present in the moment whatever I am doing) over meditating on it's own, but I know there are benefits to that (healing brain connections, strengthening them) so I want to start again. It is a great app, very thankful for the find!

@windsister: Ditto to walking in the woods! I also find that when walking in the surf along a semi-empty beach. Living in New England gives lots of opportunities like that! :-)

In addition to the traditional meditation, something that has been gaining popularity is "mindfulness" meditation. The intent isn't too have a blank mind, but to focus on the present but accept it when your mind wanders and just bring bit back to what you were focusing on. I did it quite a bit during my TBI therapy several years ago and it has been proven that it helps rebuild neuro plasticity in your brain. What that really means,i don't know, but it has helped me out some. I don't do it nearly enough. There's a lot of resources found online about it. Anyone else taken up this?

I practice mindfulness more than meditation. I'll do 10-15 minutes in the morning and then meet up with several people once a week. I started mindfulness meditation about 4 years ago but became more serious over the last two years. It's been instrumental in dealing with my marriage. When you sit and watch all the busy thoughts go past, you start realizing they are just thoughts. I'm the observer, those thoughts and emotions going by in my mind are just that thoughts and emotions. Of course sometimes, you have to feel those emotions fully to learn to accept them. I've found this extremely powerful in my life. Once you accept things, their power over you dissipates. It has been life changing for me. It's also helps me when I learn new things or practice music. I can take a few breaths and can focus on the task at hand. It's a tool that I use everyday. For 10 minutes of my time a day, it's pays in huge dividends. You can read a quick summary of some of the benefits of mindfulness www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/10-amazing-benefits-mindfulness-backed-science.html
