Good read, thank you. It can be so damn subtle and play on our own insecurities and the things we want to be true.
Just yuck

The first paragraph is just about right. When you know what you're looking for, it's easy to spot.
For years my ex made me feel like I was an idiot. The stereotypical TV dad. I'm losing it. I have trouble remembering things. She's worried about me. What would I do without her to keep track of things for me?
Well, I'm doing pretty damn well at this point and realize now that I always was.

On a tangent note, we were watching CNN yesterday and a commentator mentioned the ongoing gaslighting in the Whitehouse. My W asked what that meant so I explained it. Too bad she did not ask why I knew the answer. She does not appreciate my participation on this forum. 😆

The last couple months of marriage, I've learned that my whole marriage has been a huge gaslight. My husband is intelligent and loves to rub it in my face. Its hard.
Still admitting is kind of traumatising. But this time I have to keep it to myself because my relatives just don't see it. They think I should be lucky that he stays, considering 3 children with autism

Our teenaged son, who is in special ed and is also highly intelligent, said to him when he was really little, “Daddy, you’re smart, but you have no common sense!” Despite this, and despite that I finished my 4-year degree and landerd my dream job right before our kid started school, he also loves to rib me about my seeming lack of intelligence - my IQ being about 10 or 20 points behind his.

IQ obviously isn't everything. He has a wonderful woman who wants him and he neglects her. Sounds like a grade A dumbass to me.

what does MENSA mean?
I always tell my kids its better to be nice than to be the smartest person in the room. My husband likes to talk down to me like a kid because of my lack of intelligence. But one of my step-daughters thinks I have more life smarts or common sense or whatever.

Our teenaged son, who is in special ed and is also highly intelligent, said to him when he was really little, “Daddy, you’re smart, but you have no common sense!” I've been humbled so many times by simple, practical solutions to problems I was trying to solve intellectually. Or the domain mastery of a "blue collar" expert in their trade. I've come to appreciate that intelligence / aptitude comes in many forms, and only one is measured by IQ. And that many people with high IQ aren't necessarily well-rounded, pleasant people to be around.

Mensa is the organization for people whose iq’s are in the top 2 percent.
I qualify for Mensa, but I know that lots of times I lack do called common sense. There are lots of things I don’t know or aren’t good at.. Lots of times I’ve learned important things from people younger, less educated or who probably have lower iqs than I do. I would never knowingly make fun of someone who seemed of lower intelligence. That’s cruel.
I would not want even a friendship with someone who made fun of others’ lack of intelligence. People who do that lack compassion, a far more important quality than IQ.

Gas-lighting is just a twisted thing to do. Unlike narcissism or borderline personality (most times unconsciously abusing - it's just what they do for whatever reason) - gas-lighting requires a firm and structured approach with the goal of making someone believe they're losing their mind, and keeping them under control, or getting access to their money, or whatever the reason.
It's a very active form of abuse - no way else to do it.
Yuck, is all I can think to say.
Trivia: The term comes from the old movie Gaslight.

Its absolutely crazy to watch. when you see it, you think no one can be this sick and cruel. this person is one of a kind. and ....... here we are i think its hard to see because it starts off sooo small, like how teachers used to slowly boil frogs.
