So today, I met a woman that I really had fun hanging out with. As a lot of you probably know, I have lived in my town for about 18 months, and a certainly "motherly" person at our group's old home told me several times to go to Meetup events as a way of making new friends.
So, I've been doing that. And I've met some nice people, but nobody I really clicked with. Most of the people I meet seem to be enough younger than me that I feel sort of weird about it. I'm just no good at this "being an old lady" thing, ha ha. I keep wanting to drink beer, see bands, go to movies like Deadpool, etc.
Today there was an outdoor festival called Blues, Brews & BBQs, so I decided to join with a Meetup group that was going to do that. I figured, I love blues music, I love beer....how could I go wrong?
Well, only one other person showed up - but she was really cool! A woman about 8 years older than me. We bonded over our mutual dislike of rules and planning ahead.
Oh, we had a blast...we both said we ought to hang out again. I hope we really do.

That is nice. But you didn't say how was the music food and beer?

Sounds like a good time. As long as the beer was not Bud. I never thought I would say this - but I kind of miss that "motherly" person.

Oh, the music and the beer were excellent! jim44444, there was not a drop of Bud, or any other nasty substance masquerading as beer, to be found. I guess this says something about me, but I know enough about beer to know that I like a beer to be fairly hoppy. I like pilsners, lagers, and pale ales. There were a lot of good regional beers. And, a lot of good regional blues bands. I'm known mostly for liking rock (classic and alternative), but one of my lesser-known musical tastes is blues. So, anyway, this woman Stacy likes rules about as much as I do; and we dared to sit down at an empty table that was reserved for the local garden club; and we got shooed away by some sturdy older ladies with short haircuts, knit pants and sensible shoes. We simply said, "Oh, we're sorry, we didn't know." LOL. The truth was, we saw perfectly good empty seats; and since I'm 52 and Stacy is 59, we figured we might be able to pass for "garden club." But it was not to be. I guess even without saying a word, my aversion to yard work and other suburban bullshit can be detected! ??

Naw, @smartkat, sounds like Stacy and you were too damn hot to pass for "garden club ladies." They are too uptight for y'all. They all wear granny spanx, sensible shoes and couldn't find their kitties with a map. (Can you tell I'm in a no-BS mood?)

I love Blues and Blues Festivals. That music seems to attract a lot of sex starved guys.

@smartkat, I'm seeing Stacey getting you into a lot of trouble with single men. Just be careful. Some of these guys have nothing but sex on their minds.

I know the type!! One of my life missions is to drive those types of Garden Club members to distraction. Rules?!? What rules!?!? It's a blues festival!! We got no stinking rules!! I play classic and alternative rock, as well as a lot of other types, but my first love is Da Blues! And where I'm from, BBQ is a religion. I'd have tried to pull the "I'm with the band" card for you ladies before giving up perfectly good empty seats! Yard work be damned!!

... a certainly "motherly" person at our group's old home told me several times to go to Meetup events as a way of making new friends. FWIW: I think I was the main cheerleader for "Meetup.com" on EP! Seriously, I recommended it all the time to folks stifled by their SM. It serves as a) time out of the house, away from their refuser, b) a chance to make new friends for the comfort and confidence that will help foster, c) most "meetups" are NOT dating oriented; it is just "birds of a feather" DOING something together in real life. If anyone is interested check out www.meetup.com. Through it I've found a couple of groups of folks musicians that I play together with from time to time. Nice time!

... reserved for the local garden club; and we got shooed away by some sturdy older ladies with short haircuts, knit pants and sensible shoes. You have EXACTLY described my wife: "sturdy", "short-haired", "sensible shoes". OK: most of the time she's in khaki trousers, not knit pants. But you get the gist. In fact, she is leading gardening volunteers in one of our local parks TODAY. I'm a bon-vivant... she is a short-haired rules-follower.
