I know that a few members here have been known to cut a rug from time to time, so I thought this could be fun.
A friend of mine invited me to start joining her at a weekly salsa night at an area restaurant, and I've had so much fun the last couple of times, I've started an advanced beginner class being offered nearby. Anybody else ever done any salsa dancing?

I watched it on Dancing with the Stars, while eating nachos and pico de gallo. Does that count?

Nope, no salsa dancing. How about dribbling it over my enchiladas or on my frijoles ?

Yes! If I could have found a partner that could work with my height I would have kept going but alas, short people problems. I would recommend salsa classes or even the open dance nights, so much fun and lots of freedom. The beauty of salsa is that it uses a lot of your body's natural movements and those that dance it frequently are always happy to have new people come in (even double lefties). It doesn't hurt that you also get you see lots of shaking hips and get to touch all over another person win win!

For some reason this post puts me in mind of a piss up err *social gathering* we hosted a couple of months ago. As with many such tales, there was a surfeit of alcohol involved, LOUD music and an altogether uninhibited ambience. During which I unleashed my infamous "M C Hammer" impersonation whilst full of piss, complete with spins et al This received great acclimation from the (not very) discerning audience, somewhat ruined by me hitting the deck rather inelegantly in an involuntary finale as I crashed through the blinds. Standing ovation. One of my mates - channeling Kevin Costner (of "Dancing With Wolves" fame) suggested that henceforth I ought adopt the name "Dances With A Skinful of Fosters Lager" This was the same night when later in the evening Ms enna fell and cracked her head and ended up in hospital (and she was sober !) Anyway, more on point to "proper" (and sober) dancing, I reckon it is a great thing to engage in. Moving together, picking up the rhythm of the music, picking up on the little nuances of the partner and adjusting to them, all great. I love dancing with Ms enna. Like rooting in a lot of ways. Go for it Brother cagedtiger - it'll be a blast

You don't need a partner your size. Plus with being more compact, it is easier to do the flip stuff.

Actually my sister met her husband on a dance class, I think ballroom dancing. What was the short people problem, is it hard to salsa with a shorter person? Or short people were intimidated by your height?

The men were particularly tall, I am under five feet tall, they just we're having a hard time moving with me considering my ass was rubbing against their knees hahaha 😅 As much as I don't mind looking directly into an athletic man's core, I was a challenge for them to dance with. I'm sure I could find a dance partner that'd be happy to utilize my height, but we moved from that state... But come to think of it, maybe I should look around here for some more fun!

Keeping an open frame would help with that a bit, I think. Soon as you go to a closed frame, that could be problematic (I'm 6'1"). I was told on my class last night that usually there are more women learning and showing up for the social dances than men. Gentlemen, take note.
