I almost hate to say it out loud because there's a part of me that's afraid there are still some shenanigans left in his lawyer's bag of tricks, but...he signed the MSA today. Now all it needs is my signature and we have a settlement. Then it's just waiting for a court date to get this finalized by a judge.
I want to be ecstatic and jumping around, but I think I'm just stunned and a little afraid to believe that it's finally over. Every time I've gotten excited in the past, the rug has been pulled out from under me. But this time, I don't think there's anything he can do. It's right there in the settlement he just signed:
"Either party may obtain a Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage by declaration pursuant to Family Code section 2336 or by personal appearance on the uncontested default calendar before a commissioner, judge, or judge pro tem without further notice to the other."
I'm almost done. He can't stop the process anymore. I'll be officially divorced by the end of the year.

Tentative hooray for you MR! I do hope that once the agreement is filed that nothing else crops up to derail the court date and finalization of the divorce. Positive thoughts your way!

On the surface this looks pretty positive. Any thoughts on why the sudden reversal of attitude? My best wishes for you as the days pass and you finally reach resolution in your hard fought for divorce.

My best wishes for you as the days pass and you finally reach resolution in your hard fought for divorce. Honestly, I think it's at least partly because my lawyer finally lost her cool and just reamed his lawyer. She actually threatened to file for sanctions due to his lawyer's "incivility, lack of professionalism and name calling in order to ameliorate the extra fees that my client will have paid." Literally less than 48 hours after that, he signed. I will never understand why he chose a general attorney instead of one with experience in family law. His lawyer has cost us both thousands of dollars.

Great news! Now sign it as soon as you can get it in front of you and get that court date. He was willing to sink thousands of dollars into punishing you, and now he has nothing to show for it. You will very soon now: freedom.

Good news. Well done. - - Just out of interest, did that matter of you giving a deposition ever get off the ground, or was it just more bullshit by his lawyer ?

They cancelled the deposition when they accepted the final offer. We did end up in another battle after that over the legal language in the settlement, which prolonged the misery, but at that point we were in agreement on the primary issues of support and custody. I can't even tell you how happy I was that I got to avoid the deposition which would just basically have been his lawyer trying to make me look like a terrible person and then my lawyer bringing up the whole SM thing. Pointless nastiness since none of it matters a damn bit when it comes to the amount of support a court will order.
