By the way: a good friend of mine is going through the same proceedings as your brother.
His ex is walking away, every month, with way more than half his income. The house is to be
sold, and she's been obstructionist for years now .. and demanding he do the maintenance,
and pay for repairs, and pay support for her adult daughter who is not even his child
(and she did not allow him to take a paternal role when they were still together).
She's constantly undercutting her own position through stupidity and greed, like your brother's
stbx ... but your brother may find that the deal is not done once the divorce is through and
the final judgement given ... this may drag on for a bit. Lawyer's fees ... some people will
waste 50k on lawyers to gouge 2k out of you that they think they're entitled to. <sigh>
