Shamwow, I think that once a legal separation is filed, each spouse is responsible for their own future debts. Before the legal separation in some cases each spouse is liable for all debts if the other spouse does not pay. This information is based on reading a forum of mostly women that were or are divorcing. Some did the separation first and then moved to divorce. Absolutely correct, but the key word there is "legal" separation. She is not planning on seeing a lawyer, let alone a judge, hence the lack of the "legal". He doesn't even have to WANT to rack up the debt to affect her. Let's say he blows out his back and can't work. Credit card bills rack up make ends meet for him. She is legally liable for half and would likely be the one the creditors come after if she is working. Look, I personally hate the lawyers but like sanitation workers, they do serve a purpose.

Shamwow, I assumed a separation on her part would have been register and would have had at least competent legal advice.
Yes, if it is just an agreement between the two of them, then the financial responsibilities are shared or as in some cases, bill collectors go for the person with the money to pay.

Regardless of how the bill was acquired.
