It made me laugh and think about the drama she caused at my first wedding and the reason I haven't told her that I'm engaged again yet. I don't want her meddling in my wedding. I'm not ready to get married just yet and my partner sensibly wants to get the whole house thing behind us before we even start doing any wedding planning (partly to see how much money we have! And frankly it's much more sensible to spend money on a new kitchen than a wedding!). And I know that the minute she finds out she'll get her fingers into planning. Plus the fact that she openly flirts with and ogles my partner. It's all real icky... (He does NOT flirt back. He's partly amused and partly horrified by it.)
But it also reminded me of a time when my great-aunt's husband died and my mother complained about the ungrateful behaviour of her daughters toward her at the funeral and how they didn't fall all over themselves to thank her for coming, etc. I was rolling my eyes and told my ex what she'd been complaining about when I got off the phone and he said "Awww, [her name], did they ruin your special day?"
