May those of us who need to get out of our SMs celebrate our own Independence Day as soon as possible.

Happy Independence Day - happy 4th of July to all my compatriots! As you might expect it's not a widely celebrated holiday here in England.
However, England is celebrating!!! Through to the quarter finals in the World Cup. Went through ON PENALTIES last night! A traditional England weakness. I do have a bit of sore head this morning.
My ex refused to take our son to watch the footie at the pub. We needed to go to the pub nearest my son's new school as they had orientation last night and there was only a narrow gap between that and kick-off and my partner was waiting with a table.. I offered to take him to the pub and bring him back, I offered to let my ex watch the football with us (but hoped he'd decline) but ended up having to swap the whole night (which turned out not so bad). And then my ex didn't even turn up to the school orientation evening.
It was a magical evening - and my ex was a fool to let me and my partner have that. My son will remember that night and that penalty shoot-out for the rest of his life.

I was following the game at work on the Internet while texting with my UK AP. When it got to the penalty part I found a TV showing it in Spanish captioning and we "watched" the shootout together as she was with her family. Best I could do!
The Spanish captioning also says "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!"

Pray for all those dogs that can't stand the fireworks!!
I get to watch my neighbors fireworks from my own front porch. Their is an open view from N. to S. and E. to W. (our last home/neighborhood was loaded with oak trees and had no view) I now have a great view of all the fireworks that people set off on the beach!
Here's to gaining ground, peace, and thanks for all our troops, (present and past) who give us , new beginnings!

My “personal independence” day is July 11. That was the day in 2015 that I read my “declaration of decision to divorce” to my then-H.
At the time I was also trying to quit smoking. After I moved out, correcting my alcohol problem overtook the smoking issue. I’ve been off & on with cigarettes, a vape, & nicotine gum since then. This week I started Chantix with my first smoke-free day scheduled for July 11. I’m ready.
In Fall 2015, I got a tattoo to commemorate my declaration date. It’s a pair of dice, with one side combining to 7 & the other set of visible faces combining to 11. This was the day I bet on myself to be better off on my own. This year, I will remove another “dependence” from my life.
Happy day to all - may you each find the courage to bet on yourself, in whatever ways that manifests for you.

GeekGoddess I see Chantix is somewhat similar to Bupropion (Wellbutrin brand name) in its action. Therefore, hopefully, like Wellbutrin, it also will not decrease your libido or cause weight gain, which unfortunately, some other antidepressants CAN do (though not always, I hasten to add.) Glad you're getting on the smoking cessation bandwagon. You can't have sex if you die of lung cancer!

Hey, saarinista - the starting dose is just 0.5 mg. Then you take two of those a day (& then I think two 1 mg per day) and intended to be for only 12 wks, though you can get a 12 wk renewal depending on your need. I’ve only had sex once this calendar year. It was a bad relationship. Not as bad as the SM, but still not an actually good one. I picked poorly. He called it off. We remain pals, but not more than that. After the unceremonious dumping, I more or less decided on a relationship fast for 6 months. I’m not planning to have sex by the time 24 weeks is actually up - so any medicine side effect is likely a moot point. If you start hearing suicidal thoughts in my rambling posts though - DO call me out! Sort of teasing. But of all the side effects listed, that seems more likely than some others. Still - I have used this med twice before without troubles, so I anticipate no new issues from it. I’m glad I have folks on the forum who help look out for me though - thank you!

<sigh> In the end we didn't do anything for July 4th. My partner has a gift giving anxiety so I told him that the 4th of July was traditionally a day of gift giving and I expected my present. I didn't ride that out for long. (He really stresses over it!).
I forgot to wish my son - a US citizen - a Happy Independence Day. But he's a mad 'little Englander' so he always says something like "One ought not celebrate treachery to King and country" in the the most typically snobby British way possible. For 11, he's got a smart mouth. Last year he tried to trick me into defining the revolution as treason. Nearly got me.

Still - I have used this med twice before without troubles, so I anticipate no new issues from it. I’m glad I have folks on the forum who help look out for me though - thank you! Having taken more than my share of antidepressants in my life, my personal opinion (I am not a physician or health care professional) is that the suicidal thought increase warning attributed to these drugs probably is due more to the activating effect of antidepressants then anything about that drug itself that makes you feel sad or specifically think about killing yourself. Those of you who have been clinically depressed may have experienced the absence of thought and feeling that can accompany depression. It's not so much being sad, in my experience, as it is feeling nothing at all. Anyway if you choose to try an antidepressant, or another psychoactive drug like Chantix (which acts on neurotransmitters) you may start having more thoughts, period. Hopefully, all the thoughts will be happy and helpful. However, some say that those thoughts can include increased or new thoughts of suicide. That certainly is possible, but I didn't experience increased thoughts of suicide due to antidepressants. I say this because there is so much hype out there about psychotropic medication, both excessively positive and negative. In my experience, they are not miracle drugs (at least not for me) but also, they can really help some people. So can psychotherapy, new technologies like electromagnetic brain stimulation, or even *ECT--informally known as electroshock. Just a reminder: suicide is always a permanent answer to a temporary problem. If you're having thoughts of harming or killing yourself, call a suicide hotline or get on this forum or reach out to someone immediately. (I hasten to add reach out to someone other than your refuser.) I jest in the last sentence, but suicide is no joke. I personally lost a childhood friend to suicide. She jumped off a high building. I didn't know she was depressed. I thought she had a wonderful life and lots of energy. Turns out she was bipolar depressive, but efforts to medicate and otherwise deal with it successfully failed, obviously. Be well, and GeekGoddess call your doctor if you feel "unusual." Or as I always say, if I feel MORE unusual than I usually do! ;-p *Regarding ECT or Electro-Convulsive Therapy-it is often maligned, especially by Scientologists, and that's unfortunate, as peer-reviewed scientific research indicates it can be highly effective for those who are seriously depressed, though it is sometimes accompanied by side effects (but not a loss of libido, in my research) and also a giant hassle. Yes, I considered ECT a number of years ago, and probably might have done it if it hadn't required me to get to the other side of a big city by 8 AM. As I told my MD, I can barely drag myself out to your office by 4 PM for my prescription renewal appointments. What makes you think I'm undepressed enough to get through 90 minutes of rush hour traffic and onto a gurney way out here here by 8 AM?
