I have a friend who divorced after more than 2 decades in a childless and ill advised marriage from the git go. She filed. She had always made a lot more money than her husband. He filed for alimony and ended up getting it. Then he married someone else.
My friend was pretty annoyed at having to pay him alimony. My view is that if women expect to be equal partners in the workplace, we should expect to pay alimony or other compensation in divorce. This is especially true in her case because she did not take time off to have children, etc. I can understand her annoyance because it was an unhappy marriage, but the best thing would have been if they'd not married to begin with, as in my case.
We live and we learn, eh?
When things get really bad, remember to keep breathing.

saarinista, One of my neighbors had divorced a few years before I did. His story was similar to mine. He was a stay at home dad who homeschooled his two children. His wife is a doctor. The kids where already graduated from college when he learned of her affairs with other woman and got divorced. He receives alimony and bought a 2/2 condo up the road from us. That gave me some insight towards my own case.
My next few years will be "interesting" to say the least, when it comes to the income of woman my age that I meet in my area, compared to what I will be making after being out of the work field for 20 yrs. Living on an island between the ocean and a river here in Fl. this town is full of high income earning women, divorced and entering the dating field.
PS. I want my alimony to be temporary, and I look forward to supporting myself again.

Dan: I think I'd have to see how good a new girlfriend was in the sack before I crossed her off the list -- or kicked her out of bed -- for believing in UFOs. I guess that makes me... male!

nancyb: Dan: It was a tough decision, he was a good lover but the craziness ended things. Been dating since but nothing serious. I paint a lot.

petrushka: Thing is, someone being a fruit-loop about something like UFOs usually is not confined to one area; even if it is not immediately obvious. People who are nutty about one thing can go off at a tangent any time, I found (...out the hard way).

worksforme2: When it comes to UFO's we always hear about "little green men", why are there never any "little green women"?

solodriver: I think I recall an episode of "Lost In Space where Dr. Smith was being chased by a green woman
